Put together the pieces to make a great blog.

Think about the great blogs that kept your attention. Chances are, they featured these qualities:

  1. Great blogs are only as long as they absolutely need to be.

In fact, it left you wanting more. So, when that call to action came at the end, you went for it—because you have to get more of this content!

  2. Great blogs speak directly to the reader.

They frame the topic as a reader-focused solution. The topic is not the company. It’s not the product. The topic is not even the topic. The reader is the topic.

  3. They feature a conversational tone and likely some humor.

You’ll feel like you’re having a chat with your best bud. And you’re sad when it comes to an end.

  4. Great blogs make every word work!

The headline leaves you no choice but to click on it, and every subhead serves a purpose. They describe what’s coming next and reward those who scan (most people) with enough info that they’ll still take you up on your call to action.

  5. They excel in scannability.

Active voice, lists and bullets, clean and inclusive visuals, with Alt Text used descriptively.

  6. They won’t leave anyone out.

Great blogs’ parents remember to think about all of the people who could possibly comprise the audience. This may mean thinking about inclusive design and how people will experience the content at the outset.

From inclusive imagery to WCAG compliance, great blogs give everyone in your audience an equal shot at getting the same message.
